COOKING SHOWS
Deep research often leads me to creative outputs, including performances and events. I have a driving curiosity about hospitality and the performance of skill.
Dessert Democracy
A “cooking show” made for the exhibition Between You and Me at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Dessert Democracy tells the history of commercial gelatin and explores two similar substances: Jell-O and money.
New Recipes: Cooking, Craft, and Performance
The 2021 Haystack monograph New Recipes: Cooking, Craft, and Performance is accompanied by three “cooking show” videos that interpret recipes from a 1968 special culinary session held at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.
Working off the session’s schedule of cooking classes, these videos insert three elements that were crucially absent in 1968: the presence of a South Asian cook teaching her own cuisine (Hearth Roti), a consideration of cooking as performance art (Welsh Rarebit), and advice in at-home entertaining for queer house parties (Moss Pudding).
